Voor de dieren, voor de mensen (For the animals, for the people) is a video/performance project by Spiky Elke and Mathijs Lieshout. While both working in a kitchen, preparing food for performances, they came up with the idea to join forces. Appropriating the format of a tv cooking show, they combined recordings of their individual performances with demonstrations of their experimental dishes. The show features four recepies: how to make more of your lollipops, pies for deer, icing on houses and pastry the gangsta style. All put together in just thirteen minutes with crystal clear explanations and step by step instructions.

Not being hindered by any budget at all, this program has a nice underground touch to it. Sound is awful, sets are thinner than cardboard, lighting is weirdish, but recepies are tremendous. Invite all your friends to your kitchen, put on Voor de dieren, voor de mensen and while enjoying the soundtrack featuring songs like 'specialization' by Marilyn Monroe and 'Who killed bambi' by The Sex Pistols, do try this at home.

Voor de dieren, voor de mensen was originally presented in a large installation, featuring parts of the set, and live performance by Mathijs Lieshout and Spiky Elke.
