Mathijs Lieshout: In my work I have been dealing with two recurrent themes, concealing and decoration. Both issues keep reappearing in what I've been making, resulting in a body of work in which I'm combining carpentry, working with fabrics and pastry techniques. I have to admit I'm sometimes a bit to much on one of the outer limits of my dyad preoccupation. But I'm not settling for only highly decorative works. Like my works made out of elaborate sugar icing. Or works that are mainly dealing with concealment, like my sketches and models for houses and cities. I'm aiming at works that combine both themes seamlessly, being convinced that decoration and concealment, in the end is just one thing. What follows is a short overview of my works, and a couple of statements about it. .. ............. ..... ...... .................... ... . .
