Jorge Rivera
Oedipus Rex 7:35 2006

This video piece is based on an etching with the same title by the sub-realist artist Marx Ernst.

It proposes a fiction, which represents the personal relationship that would take place between the artist (in this case transforming into an sphinx) and the possibility or impossibility to create an artwork within this Oedipal context.

hekje (Fence) is a registration of a performance.
One morning (2001) I went to the supermarket to do some shopping. I took my fence with me, did my shopping, had a little chat with my neighbors and went back home.

hekje was originally shot on video8.

My visual work is an investigation into concepts of staging, of reality and fiction, and of origin and effect. The aim of this investigation is a research into the staged situations that are present in everyday social reality.

Erica Scourti
The Speech of Reason 3’12” 2006
Snippets of the greatest hits of movie speeches (as chosen by American Rhetoric website) are collaged together and dubbed with a synthetic voice to create a piece of oratory that sends mixed messages about the ‘human condition’ and the leaders- real and fictional- who try to shape it.
* Erica Scourti was born in Athens, Greece in 1980 and now lives and works in London. Since graduating from BA Fine Art from Middlesex University, her work has been screened internationally and extensively in the UK, most recently at the Oberhausen Short Film Festival Lounge, in ‘Making Love to My Ego’ at Bureau gallery, Manchester, the Zebra Poetry Film Award in Berlin and online video gallery tank.tv. Alternative Possible World

“Alternative Possible Worlds” involves 13 international video artists who have gained recognition as emerging talents. The work has been selected based around concerns about a rapidly changing world. From the effects of a shifting global economy, the destruction or suppression of indigenous cultures, mass building programmes and urban sprawl to dreams of possible futures, informed by a mixture of 1950s science fiction and advancements in cloning and genetic manipulation.

The artists “Alternative Possible Worlds” trace a fine line between the illusion of progress and potential catastrophe.
